What is a South Sea Shell Pearl?
Shell pearls, which are marketed under many brand names, are a pearling industry term for simulated, or replica pearls made from mother of pearl. In the case of our South Sea Shell pearls they`re shell pearls specifically made to simulate South Se as cultured pearls. They`re made in a process similar to how pearls are cultured, although these pearls are made in a factory rather than grown inside an oyster or mussel. They`re considered to be the best quality replicas you can get as they`re made out of the same material that cultured pearls are.
You can find simulated pearls made from glass, or plastic as well but while they are cheaper they can`t compare quality wise to shell pearls. For instance you won`t usually find glass or plastic beads that have the same beautiful multi-colored hues you`ll see with some of our shell pearls.

What is a shell pearl?
The process of making our shell pearls involves several stages. The raw material for the base of the pearl is a shell bead, similar to those used to nucleate pearl producing oysters. This bead is then covered in a paste made from ground up mother of pearl which is then polished and smoothed. Many successive layers are added just like this, producing a high quality replica made from the same materials as a cultured pearl, but applied with the careful precision of a factory.
Shell pearls can be a much better choice than cultured pearls for many reasons. Shell pearls, like cultured pearls, can have prices that vary greatly as the quality and even the manufacturing techniques can vary between vendors. Comparatively speaking though even expensive shell pearls will still be infinitely cheaper than getting the same size, shape and quality in any sort of cultured pearls. The second reason is that as shell pearls are man-made, we can guarantee flawless pearls with each batch. We control the shape, size, color and every other attribute of the pearl, giving us unprecedented control.
Although these shell pearls may not have been grown inside an oyster you`ll still find they`re in very high demand by consumers because of their stunning quality, comparable to that of a South Seas cultured pearl, with the same weight and much of the same feel and at almost 1/10th the price.
All of our South Sea Shell pearls are made from the finest and most fresh materials we can find and undergo strict quality control inspections at several phases during production, to ensure that only the finest replicas make it out of the factory. Each piece of jewelry is made by our highly skilled Jewelers, trained to bring out the best of every pearl they`re given.
Our shell pearls in particular are made by taking a paste made from ground up mother of pearl which is coated in layers. Each coating dries, is machined and polished, and then another layer applied, mimicking the way pearls are made by depositing the nacre in layers. The more layers each replica has, the more expensive the simulated pearl. Then when it`s finally ready the color is baked onto the exterior giving it its lasting, dazzling luster.
We use the latest in pearl production technology to ensure the durability of our shell pearls. Each shell pearl should keep its shine and color for many years to come, unaffected by sweat, perfume, and other substances that would normally damage cultured pearls.
