A tin cup necklace consists of pearls knotted at even intervals onto cotton, silk, or nylon cord. This technique is often used to give the pearls a more classic look. The necklace is also very simple to make.

For making your own pearl tin cup necklace, you will need cotton, silk, or nylon cord and make sure that the cord fits through the hole that was drilled through the pearl. Then, you will need about 8-10 pearls and and a pair of scissors. The common length of pearl necklace is about 16-18 inches. While cutting cord for necklace, first determine the desired length of pearl necklace and take around eight inches extra cord. To make this knotting easier and faster, you can use a tool called a “tri-cord knotter.”

To start with the beading of the necklace, first take one side of the clasp and tie an overhand knot with the cord. If you clip the clasp on some cloth or sponge, it won’t come untied. You can even add some glue to the knot to secure it.

In this tin cup necklace, pearls are placed with a uniform space between two pearls. Decide how much spacing you will need between the two pearls. If this is your first time making jewelry, then draw two lines on a strip of cardboard or on a piece of paper. Then place the pearls on those marked intervals.

Now at the first interval, make one overhand knot, slide on one pearl and make another overhand knot. You can even use a knitting needle with a small gauge to allow the knots to fit snugly against the pearl. Repeat this procedure for the rest of the pearls. Make sure that all those pearls are placed on the marked intervals. You can continue knotting pearls onto the cord until the desired length of necklace is achieved. After stringing all pearls on cord, attach the other part of clasp with the overhand knot.

You can try different styles and variations in this tin cup necklace by adding pearls of different sizes and colors. Along with the pearls, you can even add some crystal beads.
